Recommended Foods for Preparation & Recovery Meals to Enhance Fasting Effects
Please prepare the following ingredients in advance for your preparation and recovery days:
White rice (if brown rice, ensure it's well-soaked and cooked soft), miso, umeboshi (pickled plums), soy products like tofu and soy milk, mushrooms, vegetables, seaweed, root vegetables, cold-pressed juice, etc.
Additionally, please refer to the summary of recommended ingredients below, "magowayasii" (まごわや(さ)しい - a mnemonic for balanced Japanese diet components).
*Please note that "fish" (さかな - sakana) is not recommended during this program.

Important Notes on Fasting
Foods to Avoid During the Fasting Period (including preparation and recovery days)
During the fasting period, you should generally refrain from consuming anything other than liquids.
If you cannot bear the discomfort and feel unwell, please consume easily digestible items such as thin rice porridge, plain rice porridge, miso soup without solids, jelly, or cold-pressed juice. Additionally, please avoid alcohol, fatty meals, meat, eggs, dairy products, animal proteins, caffeinated beverages, carbonated drinks, spices, chemical seasonings, processed foods, and white sugar as much as possible.
Precautions for Fasting
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals with low blood pressure, underweight individuals (BMI <18.5), or those with diabetes may find it difficult to participate; please consult your primary care physician.
- If you have a chronic illness and are taking regular medication, please consult your primary care physician or pharmacist before fasting.
- During the fasting period, please aim to consume at least 1500cc-2000cc of fluids daily, including the Thai herbal drinks.
- While fasting is expected to have various positive effects on the body, you may sometimes experience adverse reactions such as healing crises or low blood sugar. In such cases, please do not overexert yourself, stop fasting, and proceed at your own risk.
- Individual responses to the herbal drinks vary. If you find it difficult to drink an entire bottle, please drink within a comfortable range. If you finish one bottle and still need more hydration, feel free to consume your preferred herbal tea or water.
- Warming the herbal drinks before consumption enhances their effectiveness. Using a microwave is not an issue, so please warm them and enjoy them in a relaxed state.
- During fasting, there are generally no specific contraindications, but please engage in activities within a comfortable range, according to your physical condition. Avoid excessively strenuous exercise or strong stress; instead, spend your time in a relaxed state, such as listening to music or taking a walk.
- The purpose of fasting is to primarily abstain from solid foods and allow the digestive organs to rest.
If it becomes difficult to continue, or if you experience physical or mental discomfort, do not push yourself and consume easily digestible foods (e.g., thin rice porridge, miso soup without solids, cold-pressed juice). - When the digestive organs rest during fasting, the body's cleansing effect is enhanced.
To maximize the effects, choose natural, additive-free, and safe foods during fasting, avoiding processed foods or those with many additives. - If you have any herbal drinks left after completing the fasting period, warm them up and enjoy them as herbal tea at your preferred time. They can be stored in the refrigerator for approximately 2 weeks.

A. During fasting, the consumption of solid foods is generally prohibited.
For drinks, during the 6 days from the preparation day to recovery meal day 2, if possible, avoid anything with caffeine, sugar, or carbonation.
We also recommend avoiding cafe drinks.
If you are struggling, consume a small amount of caffeine-free tea (e.g., Rooibos tea, Hibiscus tea, or the clear liquid from miso soup).
A. The fasting period might feel long.
Since meal times are omitted, you'll have more time than usual.
To make productive use of this time, why not try decluttering, cleaning, or organizing your belongings – tasks you usually put off?
Light daily exercise is also recommended for refreshment. Consult your body and incorporate exercise within a comfortable range.
Excessive exercise can conversely put too much strain on your body, so please avoid it.
You might feel fatigue or drowsiness due to lack of energy.
There's also a possibility of collapsing from anemia or low blood sugar when out, so it's recommended to spend time in an environment where you can rest at any time, ideally at home.
A. The preparation and recovery meal menus primarily consist of dishes that are gentle on the stomach and intestines.
Avoid animal proteins like fatty meats.
The key is to eat slowly and chew thoroughly.
For protein supplements, we recommend taking a break for 5 days, from Fasting Day 1 to Recovery Meal Day 2, the final day.

To conclude

Basically, when I try to do "no food at all" or "mini-fasting" by myself, I can only last about 18 hours. Please try group fasting.
